Public Health Air Quality Act

What is the Public Health Air Quality Act? (S.3529)

A bill that requires hazardous air pollutant monitoring at the fenceline of facilities whose emissions are linked to local health threats.

Policy Snapshot

Level: Federal

Bill ID: S. 3529

Status: Introduced in Senate

Topic: Environment & Public Health

How does it affect the Inland Empire?

367,584 IE residents live within a quarter mile of a warehouse & roughly 60% are Latino. Many cities have neighborhoods and schools that sit next to warehouses

This bill was introduced because communities of color and low-income communities are disproportionately impacted by industrial and environmental pollutants. “For years, under-resourced communities have been forced to live near pollutants, exposing them to serious health risks. This bill represents an important step toward combating toxic air quality and improving the data and tools necessary to prevent more public harm.”

- Senator Blunt Rochester
